If you are looking for a public performance, why not initiate one. Mark performs at all kinds of venues, from backyards, front yards, your favorite public place and aboard almost any seaworthy vessel.
Mark has already scheduled over 30 private performances for the summer of 2018. This is a big year.
Tuesday, May 1, 2018, 7 p.m., Free Admission: Martha's Vineyard Cultural Council Awards Night at the Martha's Vineyard Film Center, Beach Road, Vineyard Haven. This year's recipients of state art grants from the council will be introduced to the community. Mark Alan Lovewell, one of them, has been invited to share a song and a tale. Saturday, July 14, 2018, 2 p.m., Federated Church, Edgartown. Larry Kaplan presents a Concert of Martha's Vineyard and New England Folksongs, with special guest: Mark Alan Lovewell. $10 for members of the Martha's Vineyard Museum, $12 for non-members. Larry Kaplan is one of the nation's celebrated folk songwriters. He records with Folk Legacy records. His songs tell stories of and about people. They share a great affection for the folksingers in the past and present. It has been a long-time since the two performed for the same audience on Martha's Vineyard.
Sunday, November 4, 2018, 2 p.m.: 12th annual Old South Union Church Memorial Concert, 25 Columbian St., South Weymouth. Free admission, all welcome, Mark Alan Lovewell is the featured performer. He'll be singing maritime songs and sharing stories about this rich storied community. More details to come.
February, 23 through 25, 2018: 21st Annual Fisherpoets Gathering, Astoria, Oregon. Mark returned for his third visit, telling fish stories, reading poems and singing maritime tunes. Over 90 performers at approximately nine venues. Take a look at a new Astoria video that was posted on YouTube.
.February 24 through 26, 2017: Mark performed at the 20th annual FisherPoets Gathering in Astoria, Oregon. The weekend event raises and honors the voices of fishermen, mostly poets. Visit Fisherpoets.org for details. This is the second year he was asked to perform. He also was on stage with his son Alan Lovewell, of Real Good Fish, of Moss Landing, California.

Friday, May 23: March to the Sea, a Memorial Day observance for Edgartown Elementary School students. Mark told a story about Memorial Day, the days of whaling and the Civil War and sings. Mark has been doing this for more than 22 years.
Saturday, June 3: 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Performing for the Island Masons and families. Celebrating the Sesquicentennial Anniversary of the Lodge. Mark is providing songs and stories. Oriental Martha's Vineyard Lodge, A.F. & A.M., Masonic Temple 52 Edgartown-Vineyard Haven Rd., Oak Bluffs. Attending is Most Worshipful Paul F. Gleason, Grand Master of Masons in Massachusetts.
Tuesday, June 20, 6 to 8 p.m.: Featherstone Center for the Arts, outdoor stage. Seventh Annual Summer Solstice Celebration in poetry and song. Hosted by Margaret Emerson. Mark will be one of a dozen poets doing readings.
